The disruption of the Feijão Stream Mine Dam in Brumadinho (MG), which occurred on January 25, may have another outcome at Vale mining company that provided correct information on the dam situation at ANM (National Mining Agency).
The breach of the barrier caused mud flooding and iron ore rejection that resulted in the deaths of 252 people. Eighteen people remain missing nine months after the accident.

“Some information provided by Vale S.A. at ANM is not provided as documents contained in the mining company. If the ANM has been correctly informed, it can take precautionary measures and charge emergency actions of the company, which could prevent the disaster, ”describes a note from the regulatory agency distributed in the company.
Last week, an ANM finalized a technical opinion on the disaster that indicates Vale “omissions”, “inconsistencies” and “discrepancies” of information that have been reported by the Mining Dam Safety Management System (SIGBM).

One of the points emphasized by ANM was Vale's decision to use in June 2018 the deep horizontal drains (DHP) to control the water level that presses the dam. "Vale's internal report that, during the installation of a DHPs, was detected with the presence of intact parts or considered abnormal," said the ANM note.
“When it was found that there was sedimentation in the drained water, the notification criteria to the regulator. From this finding, technical measures are taken ”, analyzing the geologist Victor Hugo Froner Bicca, director-general of ANM, the same position he held in the former National Department of Mineral Production (DNPM).
