In our opinion, we agree with the article ‘’A word on artistic political correctness’’, in special with the difference of cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation, because, all the time everybody see this appropriation on, for example, the American adaptations of different cultures for movies. In addition, our motivation to write this text is to defend our ideas about this topic.
About this topic, we know how beautiful and different is when a Brazilian, for example, try to imitate Japanese festivals, and then put something about their culture in the middle of it, do not respecting the Japanese culture, so it is cultural appropriation. What is very different about cultural appreciation, one example of this appreciation is to see a Spanish famous dance, like Tango, and do not try to imitate it. Therefore, the main difference between these ideas is, one respects the culture and the other does not.
In brief, our personal example of cultural appropriation is the American adaptation of the Japanese manga, Alita Battle Angel, for a movie. We realize that the protagonist, Alita, on the movie, fights to show she is the strongest robot and will always win, very different about the manga, on it, Alita fights because that is a honor action and to show that fights do not going to solve every problem.
